You know that something isn't quite right with a hotel room when you open the door and all you can smell is stale urine with a hint of ammonia. This is a case of an international branded hotel at London Heathrow Airport in the UK.
It is not uncommon for hotel carpets and floor grout in bathrooms to be impregnated with urine, but in this case the smell was so strong we knew something was wrong. A quick look under the rim of the toilet revealed all we needed to know.

Gravity ensures that waste matter in a toilet drops into the water, yet in this case, it appears on first sight that users of the toilet had defied gravity as the rim looked like it hadn't been since the hotel opened.
To put the issue into context, we moved rooms four times to find a clean bathroom and after the final move we settled on the room and cleaned it ourselves.
At GUESTX we have a philosophy that states:
The room was filthy, didn't go anywhere near meeting brand standards and the hotel just didn't care and had no idea of on how to resolve the issues.
Th list of issues was endless from sheets that didn't fit the bed, heavily stained carpet that hadn't been vacuumed, mattresses that were well past their expiry date and the list goes on. On the final point, all hotel chains have brand standards that dictate how often mattresses are changed and also that they must be rotated on a quarterly basis. See the picture below, the manufacture date was June 2011 and should have been replaced at the latest in June 2021.
